Jazz Band Debut

Monday, September 2, 2013 (4:30pm) at Monterey County Fair (Payton Garden Stage)

Monterey County Pops! is pleased to announce the first performance of it's 17-piece Jazz Band on Labor Day, September 2, 2013, 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the Payton Garden Stage at the Monterey County Fair.  The Jazz Band, led by MCP! Music Director, Dr. Carl Christensen, will be joined by popular local vocalist, Sandy Clickard.  With this premier performance, Monterey County Pops! continues to demonstrate its versatility in presenting free, professional concerts to Monterey County residents and visitors.
 
The Jazz Band features the MCP! brass, reed, and percussion sections.  The fully professional ensemble of 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, piano, bass, drums, and guitar will perform classic Jazz, Swing, Latin, Fusion and Blues favorites. 
 
Among the featured composers are Dave Brubeck, Tito Puente, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and Fats Waller.  The program will include hits by Blood Sweat and Tears, Weather Report, and the Count Basie Orchestra.  Featured titles include special big band arrangements of "Summertime", "Blue Suede Shoes", "In the Mood", "New York, New York", "Oye Como Va", "La Bamba", and "Birdland."
