The Monterey County Pops!on the road… October 2022

Monterey County Pops! took to the stage at the City of Greenfield’s celebration for their 75th Anniversary of the Greenfield Harvest Festival. This FREE event was held Sunday, October 16, in downtown Greenfield.

The day began with a community parade to kick off the festivities. El Camino Real was filled with live music, art activities, food vendors, and artisans and craft vendors. For the kids there were pony rides, a petting zoo, and more.

“Our orchestra should be thanked as at every concert our musicians play with passion and commitment.”

The Monterey County Pops! played from the main stage featuring music from different regions in Mexico which was appreciated by all and had an emotional impact on many who were in attendance.

This event brought together the community to celebrate cultures though the arts. Concerts in Salinas and South County will be an evolving journey for the Monterey County Pops! as we create and build more opportunities for our audience base to grow.

“The people we are serving are truly an underserved community and I firmly believe we are offering hope and opportunity to a young generation in need of both.”

Steve DeCarli, President, Monterey County Pops!

On the program just before the Pops! was the Greenfield High School Band who have made great strides in their band program.

Monterey County Pops! has been collaborating with Greenfield school music programs since 2017, presenting workshops and shared community concerts.

During the pandemic, the Pops! conducted live instrument classes for Greenfield High students via Zoom and created a hybrid Zoom+Video presentation of Peter and the Wolf for elementary schools. A TV series of eighteen instrument classes (Pops! Pros Teach) was created in collaboration with AMP TV in Monterey and posted to www.montereycountypops.org for use by student musicians in all of Monterey County.

Monterey County Pops! is committed to making a difference through music. Our board, staff, musicians, and volunteers are dedicated to providing great music free of charge to the community and it has been a great joy to do so in partnership with the organizers, supporters, and families of the Greenfield Harvest Festival!
